Oradell Animal Veterinary Hospital

Blended eLearning + On-Site Scenario-Based Training + Onsite Risk Assessment

Ongoing Partnership |

Safety Culture

OraDELL Animal Hospital.png

"Active threats aren't just a concern for us, we've actually experienced violent incidents and threats against staff moments at our facilities. Training wasn't just a nice-to-have, it was necessary. Instead of guessing in the moment, our staff now has a clear plan, tools, and decision points they could use immediately."

Karen Critchley-Capone

Chief Operating Officer

A large, high-volume emergency animal hospital strengthened staff safety and readiness without adding full-time security, using a blended training model and onsite risk improvements.

With 350+ employees and 24/7 emergency-level care, Oradell operates close to a major metro area (NYC), where high-stress interactions and elevated threat risk are a reality.

 GOAL:

Build consistent, repeatable safety capability across three locations, so staff know how to respond to escalating behavior, reduce “freeze” moments, and improve readiness without disrupting care operations.

P3 partnered with Oradell to deliver a blended safety and threat-preparedness program built for scale:

Training + Reinforcement

  • Full access to P3 eLearning Library for ongoing training, onboarding, and refreshers

  • Active Threat Assessments for staff to build baseline awareness and decision-making

  • Weapons of Opportunity training to address real-world risks in clinical settings

  • Advanced in-person scenario training for higher-risk moments and role-specific practice

Site Safety + Physical Risk Reduction

  • P3 onsite assessment to identify facility-specific vulnerabilities

  • Implementation of safe hiding rooms and upgraded safety protocols based on layout

Ongoing Partnership

  • Continuous training coverage for new hires

  • Embedded reinforcement to support long-term culture change.

 SOLUTION:

Oradell improved readiness and reduced risk exposure without adding a permanent security guard—by creating a shared playbook across a large team and backing it with realistic scenario practice and physical safety improvements.

Reported results:

  • ~80% of staff completed competency eLearning

  • 50%+ completed advanced scenario training

  • Preparedness rating increased from ~20% to ~80%

  • Improved building security and staff readiness

  • Security guard not hired because staff felt safer and more prepared

  • Fewer incidents reported after implementation

RETURN ON INVESTMENT

"Clear playbook. Faster responses. Less uncertainty. Continuous training."

IMMEDIATE BENEFITS:

  • Clear "what to do next" playbook during threats

  • Consistent responses across departments, buildings, and locations

  • Faster recognition of escalation and early intervention

  • Reduced freeze moments and confident boundary-setting

  • Practical options and staff feeling safer

  • Improved readiness through quick, repeatable tools

  • Onboarding for coverage of new hires; consistent standard of expectations for growing staff

CHALLENGES AT A GLANCE:

  • 24/7 staffing + emergency-level care creates frequent high-stress moments

  • Large team with diverse experience levels and turnover realities

  • Time and budget constraints for training a workforce at scale

  • Active threats and real-world intimidation incidents

  • Desire for stronger safety without the ongoing cost of a security guard
