Felician University
Active Shooter | Shelter in Place | Lockdown Training
On-site, Instructor-Led Training

"They loved that the training was so specifically customzied to them - their location, how to address their buildings and layouts, and how to incorporate their existing systems to make it all easier."
Jim Hosie
P3 Lead Instructor

Felician University is an urban higher-education university in New Jersey. Hosie, the Director of Security, brought P3 Training Group in to strengthen campus readiness with training that felt real, relevant, and usable, but not generic.
GOAL:
Deliver a campus-ready training that builds on what students already know — since “Run, Hide, Fight” and lockdown drills have been part of their lives for years — and takes readiness to the next level.
Instead of repeating the basics, we focused on a repeatable, higher-value framework that helps students and staff:
-
Spot early warning behaviors sooner
-
Report concerns faster and with more clarity
-
Use Felician’s existing reporting and support systems correctly
-
Make better decisions under pressure
All within a tight 90–120 minute window, and tailored to Felician’s campus.
SOLUTION:
P3 partnered with Felician to design an active threat session tailored to their campus, their existing systems, and the real situations students and staff face, condensed into a high-impact format that fit their schedule.
Training + Reinforcement
-
Quick review of Run, Hide, Fight without going into depth on a known subject
-
What to watch for: Behavior indicators / Threat profile awareness unique to their campus
-
-
Strong focus on Situational Awareness and early action
-
“See something, say something — immediately” with practical guidance
-
-
Scenario-based discussion using real campus contexts:
-
Classroom concerns
-
Dorm observations
-
Unusual conversations or behavior shifts
-
-
Built-in alignment with Felician’s internal resources:
-
Anonymous reporting
-
Location-specific response pathways across both campuses
-
Safety + Systems Fit
This wasn’t a “new program” layered on top of what Felician already does. It was a smarter, deeper version of what they already require — connected directly to how Felician actually reports, responds, and communicates.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Felician received training that:
-
Increased the value of an already-familiar topic
-
Turned awareness into decision-making and follow-through
-
Created a repeatable framework leadership can reinforce
-
Fit campus constraints without sacrificing quality
Reported results:
-
100 people trained
-
Strong buy-in because of the specificity surrounding their campus, not off-the-shelf
-
Clear next-steps for additional training
"At this point, college students have grown up with "Run, Hide, Fight," so repeating that information wasn't going to provide value. They needed something that was more actionable."
CHALLENGES AT A GLANCE:
-
Students and staff have heard “Run, Hide, Fight” for years — basic messaging blends into the background
-
Limited training time available (90–120 minutes)
-
Need for clear, campus-specific guidance across multiple locations and buildings
-
Staff and students may notice concerning behavior, but hesitate or don’t know what to do next
-
Existing reporting and support resources can be underused if the process isn’t crystal clear
-
Training that felt relevant because it matched Felician’s campus, buildings, and systems
-
More confidence in what to watch for and what “concerning” can look like in real campus life
-
Faster, clearer follow-through on “see something, say something.”
-
Better awareness of Felician’s reporting options and support resources (including anonymous reporting)
-
Stronger shared baseline across students/staff — even with limited time
-
Clear momentum for next-step training needs (like de-escalation for resident advisors)
