Mike received his bachelor's degree in economics from Montclair State University in 1993. He received his master's degree in education in 1998 from Seton Hall University and graduated from the FBI National Academy with the FBI NA 254th Session in 2013.

From May 1988 to October 1994, Mike was a member of the United States Marine Corps Active Reserve with Golf Company 2/25, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. As a Combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm, Mike received a Meritorious promotion and obtained the rank of Sergeant (E-5), holding promotions from team leader through platoon sergeant and was a school trained machine gunner in the infantry unit.

Mike is a certified instructor and live scenario specialist at the Bergen Country Police Academy and participates as an instructor and live scenario specialist for active-duty law enforcement teams.

Mike has served over 22 years in Law Enforcement. He is currently Tour Commander for the Bergen County Bureau of Police Services for the Office of the Sheriff and is the Assistant Team Leader for the UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) Rapid Deployment Team. Mike is also part of the Crisis Intervention Team and a Mental Health Training Steering Committee Member.
Mike began his career in the patrol division of the Ramsey Police Department, and eventually, moved over to the Bergen County Police Department where his long history of teaching began. Mike was the NJ Police Training Commission certified instructor responsible for the daily training of police recruits. These trainings included physical training, firearms, and patrol tactics and techniques.
Mike has also held many leadership positions including Sergeant at the Bergen Country Police Department and Officer in Charge at the Bergen Police Academy. As a member and commander of the SWAT Team, Mike was on the Super Bowl XLVIII tactical planning committee with FBI clearance and has approved and authorized all requests for SWAT Team engagement throughout Bergen County.

Mike developed and implemented law enforcement training for basic police, Corrections and Special Law Enforcement Officer Training as well as in-service training programs. Mike coordinated basic and in-service training at the Bergen County Police Academy to include delivering lecture, classroom management, and approved lesson plans while developing an instructor cadre.
